HMRC’s statement. HMRC recently issued a mysterious statement about student loan deductions. It says changes to the system are being made, but doesn’t say what they are, only that details will follow later. However, it will be contacting some employers.

Form SL1. In anticipation of the changes, for each new employee you take on who has a student loan, HMRC will send a Form SL1 even if you’ve already started taking student loan deductions. If you receive a form, you must check the student loan plan type to ensure it hasn’t changed and update your payroll software if it has. You don’t need to inform HMRC about changes you make or return the SL1
